A Sunday Well Spent

Finally, its time for our gathering. A simple, routine friends n families meet. But trust yours truly to complicate matters. It is essential to learn when to say no and excuse yourself. It really is tough to please all and sundry.
Could not refuse pharma guys' invitation to attend their conference. A face presentation was mandatory.

Mira road it was this time. Chaotic, boisterous and gossipy. Our gathering or menij as we call it can always be described by these adjectives. Embroiled in a few controversies this time, the end is always amicable though.
Attending a birthday party without kids in tow sounds a bit odd. But as I commented earlier. It isn't possible to be at all places all the times.

The next week could spring a few surprises oscillating from the highs to the lows of life.

Work and Play at Alibaug

Alibaug it is this time. A group of doctors proceeding on the catamaran to Mandwa and from there onto a bus to The Radisson Blu.

The bus driver it seemed was taking us for a ride. Probably this is how the phrase " Alibaug se aaya hain?" was coined.
After a sumptuous lunch and a relaxing siesta, it was time for the formal introduction and scientific sessions.
Dr Siddharth Dagli, Interventional Cardiologist, took the dais first and discussed statins.

Yours truly, then managed a talk on hypertension with equal flair.

T'was a good interactive session with the audience.
A musical night then followed with the karaoke specialist, Siddharth leading the show.
Despite the late night partying, we could not remain in bed for long.

The weather was so pleasant, that an early morning stroll was mandatory.

The resort is an excellent place for a weekend break and ideal for festivities. A marriage party celebrations just added to the glamour.

A Valentine Day's Gift

Some like to say it with chocolates, while others buy flowers, but now a growing number of couples are expressing their love for each other with ‘love locks’.

PARIS -  ‘the romance capital’ and the ‘city for lovers:

If you thought romance was passé in Paris, all you have to do is look at Paris bridges to see it is being displayed in full force.
The Paris “love locks” are back. The love padlocks, called cadenas d’amour.
The love padlocks have been a phenomenon in cities as varied as Belgium to Japan.
For those of you who haven’t heard of them, here's the story. A couple writes their names on a padlock and locks it onto one of the bridges.
They then throw the key into the Seine River as a symbol of their undying love.

Eiffel tower view from Seine River

As BonjourParis reported last year, the locks on the Pont des Arts near the Louvre were cut off, reportedly by the government. But romance beats politics in Paris and the locks can now be seen on two Paris bridges: Pont des Arts and Pont de l'Archevêché.

However, there is a difference on which bridge you pledge your love.

A French tour guide was overheard explaining the phenomenon to her enthralled group.
“There are two bridges in Paris with the locks. You must be very careful which bridge you put your lock on because Pont des Arts is for your committed love, while Pont de l'Archevêché is for your lover.”
This may explain why Pont de l'Archevêché is completely packed with locks, while Pont des Arts has plenty of room.

Seine River Cruise

Some say the only way to break the seal of love brought on by this love lock act is to find the key and unlock the padlock. Of course, that is nearly impossible, since the keys lie at the bottom of the river. This reality induces many brokenhearted individuals to return with bolt cutters to try to chop off the padlocks.

Thus, I got to tell you guys and girls: Once you get a chance to experience this French romance in Paris, do NOT let it go! Sitting in the small café, drinking latté with the delicious French desserts, we don’t need to adapt ourselves intentionally into the exotic atmosphere here, and not even the flowers are necessary. Just because, if we are with the one we do love, every single day is Valentine’s Day!

However, the locals are not very much in favor of this tradition. Some of them believe that it disturbs their eco system while others feel it tarnishes the image of their bridges.

“The fools! They haven’t understood a thing about love, have they?” was the conclusion recently of a 23-year-old waiter at Panis, a cafe on the Left Bank with a view over Notre-Dame. At the heart of love à la française lies the idea of freedom. To love truly is to want the other free, and this includes the freedom to walk away. Love is not about possession or property. Love is no prison where two people are each other’s slaves. Love is not a commodity, either. Love is not capitalist, it is revolutionary. If anything, true love shows you the way to selflessness.

In his recent book, “In Praise of Love,” the French philosopher Alain Badiou reminds us that love implies constant risk. There is no safe, everlasting love. The idea that you can lock two people’s love once and for all, and toss the key, is a puerile fantasy. For Mr. Badiou, love is inherently hazardous, always on the brink of failure and above all vulnerable. Embrace its fragility, wish your beloved to be free and you might just, only just, have a chance to retain his or her undying gratitude, and love. But don’t ever dream of locks and throwing keys overboard, especially not in Paris.

So, dear friends. The decision is entirely ours. Whether we want to lock our love in Pad-Locks or in Lip-Locks.

Beach Treat

Yet another Sunday. Yet another picnic. This time to Alibaug. Sorry. Not right upto there. It's Kihim beach. Best way to travel is to take a ferry to Mandwa from the Gateway of India. 1 hr by boat. And then 30 min onto the beach. We hadn't booked our catamarans in advance. But fortunately just managed to squeeze in both the times.
Mandva
We had 2 options. Either take a rented tent or a room nearby to the beach. Room seemed a better option any day.
The Kihim beach is relatively cleaner than the regular beaches though I found the Kashid beach to be more isolated n cleaner. Luckily, our place had a separate approach to the beach.

The prawns and fish were awesome in typical konkan style. The small play area just added to the kids fun time.

Now awaiting the next weekend at the same place. Follow this space for more fun.

A Sunday Funday

A lazy Sunday as always. But with a little difference this week. Not many IPDs, being a healthy season. A great opportunity to venture with the family for a picnic outing. Zeroed in on a lunch and swim at the Marriott Courtyard.

To our luck, we managed a snap deal offer for the same. A buffet lunch with a dip in the pool per person - Rs 1150 plus taxes now cost us Rs 805 plus taxes. Not a bad deal!!!

The drive to the place was comfortable as it was a Sunday. Reached well in time.

THE POOL:

Not many words to describe it. Clean, decently sized with decent guests and good surroundings.
The kids had a ball of a time with the floats and balls. A highly refreshing prequel to what was to follow.

MOMO CAFE;

Hungry as we were, the table already reserved in advance, we settled down for our buffet very promptly. The spread was so lavish that any lavish praise would be too small for it. My son asked me what was our plan for dinner. I told him this was our lunch and dinner combined together.
After the traditional paan, there was no place for anything else. Feeling sleepy after a good exercise in the pool and a highly caloric carbohydrate enriched meal, we felt it was better to return home than risk a siesta at the Marriott.
